Where sunflowers go to die...

My mom came to pick me up from Toronto and on the backroads home we passed the saddest sight I've seen in a while. My favourite flowers are sunflowers and we passed by a field of with 1000's of ones that were dying.
Here are a few shots and the last one is one my mom took of me...

Verge Music Awards...

So by a great random chance I got ticket to see the Verge Music Awards on the 24th (the same day that I flew into Toronto) of September.

Unfortunately Said The Whale did not win their category...but it was really cool being in a club with industry people and having The Banks of the English Bay come on.

The performances were pretty good. Sebastian Granger rocked...they had a fun set and the band he toured with (The Mountains) had such great stage presence and were perfect to photograph. The Stills weren't bad, but several people around me agreed that all the songs sounded the exact same, not to mention the band members. Broken Social Scene can do no wrong... except there wasn't a single girl on stage and they were missing key male members, but still a horn section and 4 guitars...love it.

Thanks to Dawn for accompanying me and watching my drink whenever I jumped up to take photos.

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing....Editing, Hair-pulling, Sleeping

No recent photos to put up, my last few days have all been spent in front of a computer. I will be flying to Toronto on Wednesday to visit for just under two weeks and shoot a wedding, so I've been attempting to get all the computer things done and out of the way...booking tickets, wedding photos, website updates... hey, that's something to post!

Click to check out my website...the main photo and the published works pages are updated

Also, while I wait for the PDF's of my recent work for Vancouver Magazine to arrive... got out and see for yourself!!! I have many many many pages with my work on it and am so excited to show you page 12. (or you can look at them online.

This is what the cover looks like (unfortunately, not my photo)...

Next post will probably be from someone's living room in Toronto!

Pier-ing at Said The Whale...

Sorry.

Jon invited me to assist him (make sure he didn't fall in the water/borrow my lens/ask my input) while he shot Said The Whale with their new keyboardist Jaycelyn.
We went down the the pier at the Jericho Sailing Center while the sun went down and had quite a few onlookers.
Here are some of Jon shooting the band and one or two I took myself while standing around.

(love for the lens baby)

One Hour on Granville Island

My beautiful friend Holly Clarke was in town for her birthday and I managed to score an hour with her and some gorgeous clothing from Purr @ 2928 Granville St. for a quick shoot on Granville Island.

Happy 18th Holly!

Git 'R Done...

Had the twins over for a sleepover, to give the parents the night off... They didn't really want to do anything, so we made chocolate dipped strawberries, watch Cars (with Mishak learning Larry The Cable Guy's trademark lines) and had dinner with Finding Nemo.
I've trained these kids pretty well to ignore me when I am taking photos (unless I ask them to do something), and I loved the light on the couch:

They did enjoy the photobooth program on my laptop:

Lights Across The Stage/Nat Jay CD Release/The Media Club vol. 2

I proudly arrived at the Media Club for the 2nd night in a row, 300 buttons in hand, and with my name atop the list of guests (how special did I feel?!) My wonderful friend Nat Jay had the release party for her new CD Lights Across The Sky and there was a great turnout! Nat played with a band live for the first time and it sounded amazing (esp. with Tom and Peter from what used to be Lotus Child[a band I miss dearly] performing in the band!) I also have a few photos of James Lamb performing, which was great as usual!

More Maurice/The Media Club vol. 1

Evening One of Two to be spent at The Media Club! Maurice was in town once again before their fall tour began and I had a fun time with the boys in the band, some Whales and a pretty lady named Caroline.
The band is now in Edmonton, so check out their schedule and see when they'll be near you!
