I'm back!

And so begins one month of retro-blogging... You can see them all below.

I apologize for my absence...working for 17 days straight during the Olympics pretty much sucked the life out of me and now I'm playing catch-up while trying to work at the same time.

In addition, Blogger's done this weird thing where it doesn't want me to use my FTP anymore and I've had to change the URL of my blog. Here's their message:

"This blog is now located at http://blog.mcavoy.ca/.
You will be automatically redirected in 30 seconds, or you may click here."

In the posts below you'll find Music Photography from over 10 nights at the Olympics, some pdf's of work that was published during that time and bits and pieces of fun photos that I've shot.

Ready? Go...

James Lamb and the Black Sheep

We were trying to make up names for the back-up band that James had with him... I suggested James Lamb and the Shepherds...

There Ain't No Party Like...

...a party where you get to listen to live music in an amazing home.

Worlds collided for me the other day when the wonderful Cyndi Hunter, whom I met through Social Bites, sent me a facebook invite to see James Lamb and friends perform in her home. Um, Yes!

I was also lucky enough to hear Sara Ciantar and Hannah Epperson again, and some beautiful and unique words by Magpie Ulysses all while sipping herbal teas from a Campbell's Soup painted mug.

Win.

In Regina, Saskatchewan...

After the photo shoot with Rah Rah, came their show at Great Northern Way Campus.

It was quite the dance party and I enjoyed it thoroughly. In fact I'm still walking around with their songs stuck in my head, so Go Listen!

(they saved a pinata to break at the show!)

Rah Rah SMASH!

So after I photographed and met some of the musicians from the addictive band Library Voices, I got an email asking if I'd like to do the promo photos for another Regina band Rah Rah.

After emailing back and forth I found out that their next album is going to be called Breaking Hearts and Joel and I discussed the possibility of using pinatas in the shoot.

Once that was in my head, there was no alternative.
But then I came to my senses and realized getting 10 or so pinatas would cost a fortune and was impossible to find post-Valentine's Day...

So to the craft stores I went.
9 pinatas took around 10 hours over 3 days to create and as you see below...about 45 seconds to destroy.

The shoot was SO much fun and I am excited to see the photos from it out and about in the world.

Laura McNaught

So a wonderful friend of mine Laura McNaught needed some quick head shots done before she ran off to Calgary for a few months to be in The Producers. So if you live there go check her out from April 8th to June 13!

Here are some extra outtake shots that we did with pretty backgrounds in her 'hood:

Sad Mag Makes Me Happy

I'd been waiting for the chance to shoot for Sad Mag for a few months now. In love with it and its creators.

So Brandon sent me out on a mission to meet up with writer Will Graham and his bicycles. We took some pretty fun photos...below is the preview shot from the website and an outtake from ground level. PDF's from the magazine to follow:

Oscars 2010!

It was a dark & stormy night and the Oscars were on TV!
I went and hung out with my favourite kiddies, who said the darnedest things during the event...good times.

Eco Fashion Week

I was invited by the wonderful Vince Vaccaro to come and take photos during his show for Eco Fashion Week.

The extremely talented Jill Barber was also performing that evening, so I took a few shots of her as well...

Enjoy.
