Update!

So here is a quick update.

CMP didn't move on in the Searchlight comp (but thanks for the nom), but VIAindie made it to the TOP TWENTY!

I went on tour with some spectacular boys in March and you can see all of the photos on that tour blog over here. (I probably should have mentioned that before I left).

I'm back in Vancouver and I'm working very very hard.

I'm going to be updating my website, pushing my wedding website live and I will promise to catch up on some retro blogs and keep you more up to date.

I'm not sure to whom I'm speaking, but thanks for stopping by!

Searchlight!

Oh hello there!

If by some miracle you've arrived here via the CBC Radio 3 Searchlight contest...

Thanks for coming!

I've been quite busy with the OTHER blog of mine that is also nominated (VancouverIsAwesome.com Indie)... but I promise I'll do some updates soon!

If you feel the need to vote for me you can DO SO HERE. Although, I'd suggest voting for VIA Indie...because that is 10x more nerdy.

Much love to whomever put my name in the hat for either!

CBC Open House 2010

The CBC held it's second annual Open House on the 3rd and I spent what felt an entire day there and had a BLAST.

If you want to see a ton of photos from the day, click here to check out the post on VIA!

Below is a shot of me competing against Tyler from Said The Whale in a trivia contest on Lana Gay's show on Radio 3:

DJ C-Mac

I got the chance to work with one of my favourite (former) publications Granville Magazine and shoot some photos for their online magazine.

The article is about how radio isn't dead and they interviewed several of Vancouver's DJs. Which means I got to spend some time with a few of my favourites in some amazing spots around the city...

Here is a LINK to the article, as well as a screen shot, and the images themselves as well.

The Mountains and The Trees!

From the east coast to the west coast (aka the best coast!) Jon Janes (or "The Mountains and The Trees") finally made it to Vancouver after lots of touring...

We did some of the standard sites to see, I made fun of his Newfoundland accent and then we wandered over to Radio 3 as Jon was to be on Lana Gay's show!

We both also ended up recording a Track of The Day (Thanks Hodge!) but you'll have to wait and see what song I chose...

Fun times!

"Me and my cracker friends..."

...were riding down the street in our Dodge Caravan.

So a little back story on the Sasquatch trip...I found out about 2 weeks before hand that I got my press pass approved and that I was going.

Immediate panic was that I needed a ride and someone to camp with.

Several weeks prior to THAT, a few of my music-(and Radio3)-obsessed friends had started a facebook group about Sasquatch and going down to Washington for the festival. So I jumped on the bandwagon with them and sailed off to document the weekend.

Little did I know our campsite was to become CBC Radio 3 base camp...including a hand stitched flag by Lauren!

Radio 3 caught wind of what they/we created, and Chris Kelly & Brent Hodge came along to take a video.
I just so happened to be working on my laptop in it...imagine that.

Check us out below...(I'm the one that says "Hey, I'm Christine...McAvoy")

In Session (again)

Another CBC Radio 3 Session podcast is out with my photos! This time it's the Jasper Sloan Yip live recording in Studio 1, here in Vancouver.

Here is the link to listen online...but you should really download it because then you also get to hear all the commentary between songs.

I was really happy to get to shoot this for Radio 3 because it was my first introduction to the band and I made some pretty excellent friends out of it.

Hannarama!

Hannah Georgas was over at Radio 3 the other day to record a podcast and hang out on Lana Gay's radio show, Lanarama (dubbed Hannarama for the day)...I tagged along to take some on air shots of the girls (Amanda Ash appeared as well, so it was quite the girl party).

Hannah is on tour right now, and has her Vancouver CD Release lined up for May 22nd at Venue, which will be QUITE the party! Click here for tickets.

Love this girl.

Hockey Night on Hamilton Street

For the first time since the Olympics the CBC had an event out on the plaza. This one was called Hockey Night on Hamilton Street...they set up bubble hockey and slapshot tents, CBC Radio 1 was broadcasting live and the games were on the big screen.
On top of this Jasper Sloan Yip and the band were out on the plaza playing live to the On The Coast listeners and the crowd.

And after all this, and the rain starting to pour (no one stayed later on for the Canucks game), they even did the news live at 5. I got to see wonderful folk like Ann Luu doing the weather, Shane Foxman talking sports and even Sully, one of the infamous Green Men jumped on the news...oh AND the mayor of Vancouver was there.

The day was kinda cool I guess.

Skating Party!

Radio 3 had a skating party at Robson Square the other day. Hannah, Dan Mangan & Dan Moxon were there, as well as the R3 kids...

Had an excellent time skating around with Hannah...took this shot of us under the skylight dome:

More shots on Flickr...yes, I caved, but I don't think I will be using it for much, besides stuff like this.

A Day At The Ceeb

On the 4th of December (which is actually my mom's birthday! Happy Birthday Mum!) I spent ...around 6 hours at the newly renovated CBC Vancouver building, which they opened up to the public for a day!

The main goal of the day was to (at the prompting of Sas) find, and have my photo taken with, Ian Hanomansing(h). In addition to this I spent a lot of my time in the Radio 3 studio broadcast, watching Said The Whale and Hannah Georgas perform live to air, and to the visitors to the building.

I also finally met up with Bob from VancouverIsAwesome.com as he was being interviewed for Grant Lawrence's show.

It was a pretty awesome day/a total geek out looking behind the scenes and meeting some great people (plus Chris Kelly got me my R3 t-shirt and touque!)
All of the photos from the day can be found here: www.mcavoy.ca/CBCOpenHouse ... and here are a few of my favs:

Indie King vs. Hindi King

It was the Bombay.

Dan Mangan was at the CBC Radio 3 studios to do an interview and a Pun-Off with host Tariq Hussain and I tagged along to take some shots.
It was extremely amusing, esp. to be behind the scenes and watch them writing out their list of puns. I think Dan won in the end...it was definitely the 'ovum' joke.
Click here to listen to the interview (the Pun-Off is at 17:00).
